What the Expo is about

This is a Specialised Expo, the smaller three-month format that sits between the big five-yearly World Expos. The BIE, which oversees all official Expos, awarded it to Serbia on 21 June 2023, ahead of bids from the United States, Spain, Thailand and Argentina. It's the first Expo of this scale in the Western Balkans.

The theme is Play for Humanity – Sport and Music for All, split into three sub-themes: Power of Play, Play for Progress and Play Together. Expect national pavilions, a theme pavilion and more than 8,000 programme events over the 93 days, from concerts to sport and tech showcases. The mascots are called Rastko and Milica.

Where it is: the Surčin site next to the airport

The Expo is being built in Surčin, on the south-western edge of Belgrade, directly beside the airport. The site has three connected areas: the International Pavilions, the Thematic Zone and the Corporate & Best Practice Area, linked by a landscaped central promenade.

Next to it, the city is building a new National Stadium with room for 52,000 people. The stadium is not an Expo venue. Recent reports suggest it will be finished after the Expo, so don't plan around stadium events during the Expo months. The stadium is already confirmed as the venue for the UEFA Europa League final in 2029.

Getting there

Flying in. Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) has direct flights from many European cities. Because the Expo sits next to the airport, your transfer to the site is short: roughly ten minutes by road.

From the city centre. Plan on around 20 minutes by car without traffic, longer at rush hour. A rail link is planned from Zemun Polje via the airport and Surčin to a station at the National Stadium, next to the Expo site. The opening date hasn't been confirmed, so until it runs, count on road transport. New bus lines to the Expo have also been announced.

For groups. The simplest option is a booked transfer. We arrange airport pickups for up to 7, up to 15 or up to 20 people, and a tour bus for up to 50. The same driver can take you from the airport to your apartment, and from there to the Expo and back.

Tickets: what's known so far

At the time of writing (September 2026), Expo tickets are not on sale yet and no prices have been announced. The organiser has ordered single-day and three-day tickets for sale at physical outlets, and online sales are expected via the official website.

Daily opening hours haven't been published yet either. We'll plan your Expo day once they're out.

Where to stay for an Expo group trip

The Expo is out by the airport, but the best base for a group is still the city. Most groups stay central, in Stari Grad, Savamala or across the river in New Belgrade, and take a transfer out to the Expo on the day they visit. You get restaurants, bars and the river on your doorstep, and a 20-minute ride out to the site.

Staying near the airport only makes sense for a very short trip with an early flight. For larger groups, apartments or a villa usually work better than several hotel rooms. See our guide to choosing group accommodation. Expo summer will be a busy season in Belgrade, so book beds early and tell us your group size.

Belgrade after the Expo gates close

The Expo runs from mid-May to mid-August, which is exactly when Belgrade's splavs are open: the floating clubs and bars moored along the Sava and the Danube. A day at the pavilions, dinner in town and a night on the river is the most obvious way to spend an Expo trip here.

Want the evenings sorted? Tell us which nights you're in town via /plan or WhatsApp +31 858 769 286 and we'll line up tables, transfers and dinner.

Sample group weekend around an Expo day

Day 1: arrive and head to the river. Airport pickup, check in, dinner in town, then a first night on a splav.

Day 2: Expo day. Transfer out to Surčin in the morning and spend the day at the pavilions and programme events. Back to the apartment, a group dinner (we can reserve the restaurant), then a club night.

Day 3: something active before the flight. A group boat tour, a private speedboat tour or rafting, then the transfer back to BEG, which is right next to where you spent Day 2.

Every group is different, so we don't publish fixed Expo packages this far out. Browse all Belgrade group activities and we'll build the weekend around your dates. Travelling as a company? See corporate events.

Use this form for a group trip or a corporate quote, from a stag weekend to a team outing or client event. Tick the parts you want us to arrange: Expo tickets, hotel, airport transfers, local transport and extras. 2027 hotel and ticket prices haven't been released yet, so we'll send your tailored quote as soon as they are.
