Belgrade is a city you see best from above. From the right rooftop you look out over the Belgrade Fortress, the confluence of the Sava and the Danube, and the towers of New Belgrade, often with the sun dropping straight behind them. For groups, a rooftop is a practical way to start the evening: everyone meets in one place, there is food and drinks, and the club night can follow from there.

In early autumn locals talk about miholjsko leto, the Serbian Indian summer: a run of warm, sunny days that can stretch into October. That is when Belgrade's terraces are at their best. This guide combines three picks from a recent Belgrade creator with four rooftops we added ourselves, and explains which ones take group reservations, what to wear and how to fit them into a weekend. Opening hours and seasonal setups change, so always check shortly before you travel.

How rooftops in Belgrade work for groups

Most rooftops in Belgrade sit on top of hotels or office buildings and combine a restaurant with a bar. That matters for groups: several venues prioritise reservations for guests who eat, while drinks-only guests are seated as walk-ins when there is space. A table for six or more is easier to arrange as a dinner booking than as a drinks booking.

The outdoor part of a rooftop is usually weather-dependent. Some venues have a retractable roof or a glass-enclosed section and stay open all year; others reduce their terrace in colder months. In October the difference between a sunny afternoon and an evening after sunset can be large, so bring a layer.

On 2 October 2026 Belgrade creator Alexandra Mikata (@mikataalexandra) shared her three favourite rooftops for autumn in this Instagram reel. Her picks, with the practical details we checked:

1. Mama Shelter rooftop (and the Jurka morning parties)

The rooftop of Mama Shelter Belgrade sits on top of the Rajićeva Shopping Center at Kneza Mihaila 54A, at the end of Knez Mihailova. The 500 m² terrace looks towards the Belgrade Fortress, Knez Mihailova and the old town, and has a bar, table tennis and table football. The menu runs from breakfast to cocktails and Mediterranean-style sharing plates. Opening depends on the weather and the season, and the hotel's own information on its winter setup is mixed, so ask us before you plan around it.

The reel also mentions Jurka (@jurkabelgrade), a Belgrade morning-party series with house music that moves between venues. Jurka is an event series, not a permanent bar, and its dates and locations change: check our WhatsApp for the next date. The hotel also programmes DJ sunset sessions on the rooftop; ask us what is on during your stay.

For groups: casual dress is fine. For rooftop reservations, ask us: the setup is seasonal, and the hotel's own information on group tables is mixed. For event nights and larger groups we check the options with the hotel.

2. BIGZ 011 – views from the BIGZ building

BIGZ 011 is a restaurant on the 9th floor of the BIGZ building at Bulevar vojvode Mišića 17, a 1930s modernist landmark by architect Dragiša Brašovan. It opened in late 2025, and the venue describes a roof terrace with panoramic views; the reel points to the view over Belgrade Waterfront and New Belgrade. The restaurant lists its hours as Monday to Thursday 12:00–00:00 and Friday to Saturday 12:00–01:00, with DJ nights and themed evenings.

The reel recommends a Sunday matinée, but the restaurant's own website lists it as closed on Sundays, so plan BIGZ 011 for a weekday or Saturday.

For groups: the restaurant takes table reservations, and no dress code is published. It is not stated whether the roof terrace is used in the colder months, so ask us to check for your dates.

3. Restaurant Caruso – sunset over Terazije

Caruso (written Karuzo in Serbian) is a restaurant on the 8th and top floor of Terazije 23, directly opposite Hotel Moskva. It is a top-floor restaurant with a terrace along its south-west side rather than an open roof deck, but the view is the point: the Terazije plateau, and further out towards the confluence, New Belgrade and Zemun. The kitchen is Balkan and Mediterranean, and the reel calls a sunset here "a classic".

For groups: this is a dinner place more than a bar. Reserve and ask for window or terrace seating. Published opening times differ between sources, so we confirm them for your date when we book.

Four more rooftops we recommend

These are not from the reel. We added them because they are well-established rooftops with clear booking routes, which makes them easier to arrange for a group.

4. SkyLounge at Hilton Belgrade

SkyLounge occupies the top (8th) floor of Hilton Belgrade at Kralja Milana 35, with indoor seating and a rooftop terrace looking over the city centre and the Temple of Saint Sava. The menu is Pan-Asian and international, and the restaurant is listed in the MICHELIN Guide. DJ sessions run Tuesday to Saturday from 21:00. Opening hours: Monday, Tuesday and Sunday 12:00–01:30, Wednesday to Saturday 12:00–02:00. The outdoor terrace is seasonal; the 2026 terrace season opened in late May.

For groups: the most "dress-up" option on this list. Dress code is smart casual or elegant casual; sportswear and casual footwear are not allowed. Reservations are for dining; drinks guests are walk-in, subject to space. The venue also hosts organised events.

5. Heritage Rooftop

Heritage Rooftop is on the 9th floor of Heritage Hotel at Mije Kovačevića 7a, about 27 metres above the street, with views over the city and the river. The hotel lists it as open daily 10:00–00:00, with live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. It combines an air-conditioned interior with an open-air section, which makes it a reasonable choice for cooler autumn evenings.

For groups: a relaxed choice for dinner and drinks together, with free hotel parking subject to availability. The hotel takes reservations.

6. The View Rooftop at Hotel Crystal

The View Rooftop is on top of Hotel Crystal at Internacionalnih brigada 9 in Vračar, with a direct view of the Temple of Saint Sava. Its online booking page lists hours of 12:00–00:00. It is a restaurant-lounge with cocktails and an international menu, and an independent rooftop guide notes that a retractable roof and windows keep it usable all year.

For groups: online table bookings cover up to ten guests; bigger groups and events go through the hotel, and we can arrange that for you.

7. The Roof at Prezident Palace

The Roof is the rooftop bar of Prezident Palace hotel at Venizelosova 54 in Dorćol, with views over the city and the Danube. It is small, with around 50 seats, and has an outdoor pool that runs seasonally from mid-May to September.

For groups: best for a small group and a short pre-dinner or pre-club drink. It is mainly a warm-season spot, and the hotel does not say whether the bar opens in autumn and winter, so ask us before you plan it in.

Best time to go: plan around sunset

The best moment on any rooftop is the hour around sunset. In early October the sun sets around 18:30 in Belgrade; by the end of October, after the clocks go back on 25 October, it is before 17:00. Book your table about an hour before sunset so the group is seated and ordered when the light changes.

Weekend evenings are the busiest. With a larger group, a weekday sunset or a Saturday late afternoon is usually easier to arrange than a Friday at 20:00.

From rooftop to club: combining it with a night out

A rooftop works best as the first stop. A typical evening: rooftop drinks at sunset, dinner, then a club from around midnight. In summer, the splavovi on the Sava and Danube are the obvious next step. Most of them run from roughly May to September, so in autumn the night moves to clubs in and around the centre. Our Belgrade club guide explains how that works and when to reserve a table.

Location helps: Mama Shelter and Caruso are within walking distance of Knez Mihailova and Skadarlija, SkyLounge and The View are in Vračar near Slavija, and Heritage Rooftop and The Roof are near Dorćol. Plan transport between the rooftop, dinner and the club in advance, so nobody has to arrange taxis for a large group at midnight.

Practical tips

Frequently asked questions

Are Belgrade rooftops open in autumn and winter?

Some are. Heritage Rooftop and The View have covered or indoor sections, and SkyLounge has an indoor restaurant with a seasonal terrace. The Roof at Prezident Palace is mainly a summer venue, and Mama Shelter's rooftop is seasonal. Always check outdoor seating on your dates.

What should we wear?

Smart casual is a safe choice. SkyLounge requires smart casual or elegant casual and does not allow sportswear or casual footwear. Mama Shelter is casual.

When is the best time to go?

Around sunset: about 18:30 in early October and before 17:00 from late October. Arrive an hour earlier so the group is seated.
