Why Belgrade Nightlife Got Famous: From the 2010 Scene to 2026

Belgrade nightlife got famous because the city went for energy before polish. After the Milošević years ended, people poured into clubs, river barges and culture centres, playing everything from folk to electronica. In 2026 that same energy is still there, just in new places, and you can book your group's table with Partyin.
The 2010 spark
In 2010 the New York Times Next Stop desk wrote about Belgrade's music scene (Rachel B. Doyle, NYT, June 2010). Her point was simple: travellers were coming for the nights more than the museums.
The article covered:
- KC Grad, the culture centre in Savamala, celebrating its anniversary with a guest set from Louie Austen.
- 20/44, a pontoon on the Sava named after the city's map coordinates. People came for Disco Not Disco parties and rakija.
- Tube, a club in an old fallout shelter, booking DJs from Berlin.
- Local bands like Petrol, Svi Na Pod! and Repetitor, plus DJs like Tijana Todorović.
The story also pointed to the music's political history: the sanctions years, when visiting acts like Laurent Garnier and The Prodigy were treated like heroes.
Is it really "the new Berlin"?
The NYT made the comparison with post-Wall Berlin carefully, and so will we. Belgrade isn't trying to be Berlin. What the two share is spirit: big nights that matter more than slick interiors. On top of that, Belgrade adds its own things, like turbofolk next to techno, late tables with friends and bottle service, and parties on the river.

What your group walks into in 2026
- Savamala still counts. 20/44 is still a name people know in Savamala, and KC Grad is still part of the neighbourhood's story.
- The splavs have moved. The Ušće bank was cleared for EXPO 2027. In winter, the river crowd heads to Beton Hala: Freestyler, Lasta and The Bank. In summer, the barges line up along Sajamski kej.
- Club nights in town: VIBE & AFTER on Makedonska 4, plus Hype, OMG and Drugstore. You can find them all in our Belgrade club guide.
- Book ahead. Weekend tables fill up fast. You can reserve a nightclub table in Belgrade through Partyin.
